Our Montana

Our Montana

Our Montana is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation, history, and responsible recreation across the state. Founded in 1994 as the Montana State Parks Association, the organization carries forward more than 30 years of stewardship and collaboration focused on protecting Montana’s parks, rivers, historic sites, and trails.

Through partnerships, research, and community engagement, Our Montana works to connect people with the landscapes, rivers, and historic stories that shape Montana’s heritage. Over the years, the organization has supported a wide range of initiatives including historic trail research, battlefield studies, cultural resource protection, interpretive projects, and public education efforts that help preserve and share important places across the state.

Today, Our Montana’s work includes collaborative stewardship of the Yellowstone River and the development of educational resources that help residents and visitors better understand Montana’s landscapes and history.

One of these resources is the Yellowstone River Discovery App, a free mobile guide that provides information about river access sites, recreation opportunities, safety considerations, and historical context along Montana’s longest free-flowing river.

Our Montana also supports historic interpretation through projects such as The Bozeman Trail in Montana, an educational website documenting the route and history of one of the most significant travel corridors of the Northern Plains.
