Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument

Crow Agency, Montana

The Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument commemorates the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn, where Lakota and Cheyenne warriors defeated the U.S. Army’s 7th Cavalry, including Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer.

The battle was a momentary victory for the Lakota and Cheyenne. The death of Custer and his troops became a rallying point for the United States to increase their efforts to force native peoples onto reservation lands.
